App Review: Munchery

Fresh delivered?

Munchery is an app that promises "fresh, chef-made meals" delivered to your door. The menus change daily and chefs mostly come from well-known restaurants. In addition, there is an impact aspect to the app. For every dinner ordered through the app, Munchery donates a meal to someone in need.
USER EXPERIENCE
This UI is beautiful. When you enter the app, you are immediately taken to that day's menu. The pictures of food are downright outstanding. Who ever is plating/photographing this food is a true artist.
In order to view the full menu of options, you must scroll down to the bottom. This is the one thing I don't like about the app. I wish instead of scrolling, there could be a carousel of each category, and the user would be able to swipe through the carousel rather than scrolling to the bottom.
The food is organized by categories: appetizers (at the beginning) , entrees, desserts, and snacks/drinks at the end. Food can be ordered by pressing the orange "add" button below each item.

I love the simplicity of the ordering process. Once you have added food to your cart, the bag icon on the right side of the screen shows how many items it contains. In order to view the cart, click the bag icon.
On the left side of the screen, a menubar will pop out, and you can modify your account, contact customer service, find FAQ's and refer your friends. For every friend you refer, you get a $20 credit to your munchery account.
THE FOOD
The food arrives in a biodegradable package, which I appreciate. Munchery aspires to be sustainable in that the food is delivered in a recyclable bag, with local ingredients, carbon neutral delivery, a giving philosophy (buy one, donate one).
This is the packaging
I ordered the soy glazed salmon, which came with a side of broccoli. The salmon tasted fresh, and all I had to do was put it in the microwave. Even though I was microwaving it, it felt good to know that it was prepared that morning and not some kind of preservative-packed, zombie food. The freshness showed when I took a bite. The salmon was perfectly cooked and the soy glaze, although a tad sweet, really complimented the taste of the fish. Although, the presentation left something to be desired.
OVERALL
This app has excellent UI, and is really easy to use. My food arrived at exactly the time I wanted it. There are a few things that Munchery loses points for, like food presentation, but overall, I'd download the app again. 8/10
